Learning from Others

As some of you may know, I am a regular guest on Marilyn Wetston’s show “From a Woman’s Perspective” on Zoomer Radio. The show broadcasts on Saturday morning at 8:00 a.m. and the show gives our listeners the opportunity to learn from others. Each of us bring our individual area of expertise to the table but our happy stories and informational segments give those who tune in the opportunity to make informed choices. As we are often reminded, you don’t know what you don’t know. No one can confidently know everything about each of the topics we cover and these days the world is changing at such a rapid rate that keeping up with the opportunities and the pitfalls can be tough.

Our listeners tell us that they enjoy hearing our happy stories and we love the feedback. The reality is though that not all of our happy stories begin happily. We often get involved when people are facing a problem. We help our clients to successfully navigate it and we give them a reason to smile. This gives everyone involved an opportunity to learn from others’ experiences – and to avoid their mistakes.

When it comes to our older clients and their families at Moving Seniors with a Smile Inc. every individual and situation is a little bit different. Things that seem manageable for one person can feel daunting for another and things that were manageable when they were younger now can feel like an impossible mountain to climb.

Marilyn often shares that working with me means you don’t have to break a nail but truly most of my clients aren’t as concerned with breaking a nail as they are with finding the right mover, not paying more than they need to for junk removal and knowing what they can do with their parents’ antique dining room set.

They want to know whether their things should be kept, sold, donated or disposed of and that their keepsakes will be professionally packed and cared for throughout their move.

Our clients want to know that the sideboard that they measured will actually look good in their new space.

They want to know that their art will be safely transported and installed in their new home so that they don’t have to bother their daughter or their grandson.

They’re seeking a shoulder to lean on, a hand to hold and sometimes a cheering section to reassure them that they are making good decisions at this time in their lives.

Many of my new clients have not moved in twenty, thirty or forty years. They hear horror stories about movers that hold items for ransom and refuse to unload them off the truck until they are paid an additional sum. One of my recent clients shared that the last time they had moved into their house they’d left their old house at the same time as their movers. They couldn’t figure out what was taking the movers so long so they hopped in their car and drove back. Sure enough, they saw the truck parked and the movers were drinking beer from a case at the side of the road. Shaking my head I assured my client that she would not run into that kind of thing with the movers that we recommend and, as promised, she was thrilled with the care that they took with her furnishings and service that she received.

Of course experience matters a lot but relationships count too. Wonderful as each of our recommended suppliers are on their own, they go the extra mile for my clients because of the relationships that we’ve developed over the years. You may need their services once every ten or twenty years. I deal with them multiple times in a month so understandably they pull out all the stops to make sure that my clients are not only satisfied but delighted.

Peace of mind means everything when you are making a big change in your life. You don’t need to wonder if you are taking the right amount of bedding or if the heavy mirror can be safely installed behind the sofa. You don’t need to question if that cabinet should go or if you should take the secretary in the upstairs hall instead.

You can learn from others’ experiences. With our dream team you’re not only getting decades of our combined move management and organizational experience you are benefitting from our strong relationships with other vetted reliable and cost effective service providers as well.

There is no need to fear your upcoming move and everything that it entails. We can knowledgeably, sensitively and objectively help you with all aspects of your transition. Best of all? We do it with a smile and so can you!
