It’s More than Just the Move. . .

I occasionally get enquiries and it quickly becomes clear that what is wanted is a moving quote.  I understand the confusion.  My company name is: #Moving #Seniors with a Smile Inc. after all.  But those in the know understand that I am a Senior Move Manager and the actual move is only one element of an older adult’s #transition.  It is not a term that everyone is familiar with so I thought that I’d share just how we go beyond what a regular mover can offer.

Sometimes you know that it’s time to make a change.  You may not be feeling as confident on the stairs anymore.  You have not been eating as well either and you are probably tired of all of the responsibilities of house maintenance.  Your friends have moved on and you think you can do this and then you start to look around you.  You have lived in your home for thirty, forty or fifty years.  You have #memories everywhere you look and a lot of stuff that you’ve #collected.  It’s overwhelming.  Where do you start?

A Senior Move Manager is really like a general contractor.  We can help you with each and every aspect of your transition. As soon as you have chosen a place and, for my clients that’s often a condo or a retirement residence, we start by helping you to do some space planning.  A measuring tape only goes so far in figuring out what will work well in your new home.  Is the furniture that you want to take scaled properly for your new space or is it too big and bulky? Just because you may be using two or three dressers now doesn’t mean that you will necessarily want to try to squeeze them all in when you move.  Do you still wear and use the items that you are thinking of taking?  Will you be downsizing?  How will you choose what to take?  We can help with those tough decisions and we can recommend the best strategies available for you to get rid of the items that you choose to leave behind.

We recommend the approach that will work best for you and then we bring in our dream team to #professionally pack everything for you in one day.  We oversee your move with awesome #movers and, sometimes the same day but often the next, we unpack your boxes and set everything up for you, including installing your art.  Your new suite will feel like home right away and, if you require other contractors or service providers along the way, we know the best of the best. These vetted service providers really go that extra mile for our clients. They often provide industry discounts and perks and the added level of customer service is there for you because of our ongoing relationships.

As a #SeniorMoveManager I help with the emotional as well as the practical. Anxiety can be a big issue for some of my older clients.  #Reassuring them throughout the process that they are making #goodDecisions can go a long way toward ensuring that their transition not only is #seamless but feels seamless.

Many of my clients are in their eighties.  Sometimes they don’t have children but if they do, they are often in their fifties or sixties themselves.  They may not live in the GTA and if someone has three children, it is almost guaranteed that they will not agree on the best way to help Mom and/or Dad. I personally have a background in #mentalhealth support, #crisisintervention and #disputeresolution.  You can bet that those skills come in handy with some #family dynamics that we all run into from time to time.

As the Founder and Managing Director of Moving Seniors with a Smile Inc., I have been serving older adults and their families in the GTA since 2012.  I am also a member in good standing of #NASMM, which is the National Association of Senior Move Managers.  We adhere to a code of ethics, are bonded and insured and are covered by liability insurance.  This is just one more way that we provide peace of mind.  It’s so much more than just the move…
